Remember Mistake #1 – Vague Goals? And the prevention/correction (Clear goals)? (If this is new to you, quickly! sign up for the newsletter (over there on the side) and get the eCourse “The 7 Mistakes That Sabotage Your Success™”. Yes, it’s free.)
Today I want to talk about clear goals for a moment. You already know to get clear and specific with your goal. But are you getting specific enough?
If you want to achieve your goal, then you need to be REALLY specific. When I say specific, I mean, REALLY detailed and specific. (Have I emphasized that enough, yet?) Specific.
How specific? It’s probably overkill to visualize fingerprints on that new car from the dealership, but only a little bit. Here is a good rule of thumb – imagine you having achieved the goal. Where are you, what does it look like, what does it sound like, what does it smell like, what does it feel like? Don’t know? You probably haven’t gotten to enough detail, yet.
Sometimes people complain that they can’t imagine things or visualize or see pictures in their mind. I’m sure that’s not you. Because, you see, if that were true, they would be brain dead. A vegetable. Hooked up to tubes and life support. And they certainly couldn’t read.
Yes, they THINK they can’t visualize, or imagine, or whichever ever sense they think they don’t have… but they are overlooking what is actually happening in their brains – at lightning speed. The human brain thinks in pictures. If you are not a blind-from-birth person, your brain sees pictures and thinks in them. You can’t not do so.
So imagine that goal. Not vague, but sharp. Zoom in on it just like a movie camera does. Go in for the close-up. (It may happen at fraction of a second speeds, but watch for it.) If you can do that for your goal, you are probably getting specific enough.
Get clear and specific and you will be amazed at how you start to make progress toward your goal.
